About Us

Broad Marsh Tweed was established primarily as a creative response to the wastage of quality fleece from our rare breed flock.

Rare breed fleece does not lend itself to general commercial weaving and I was unwilling to blend the wool which would comprise the authenticity of the project. We therefore found a traditional woollen mill willing to accommodate our particular fleece.

I have always had an affection and leaning to the term "black sheep". The more I learned the more I became attracted and over time a significant flock of rare breed coloured sheep was built.

Every breed of sheep (commercial included) have strengths and weaknesses and over time we settled on three main breeds, Zwartbles, Manx Laoghtan and Jacob.

All prospered on our land and our own tweed became a reality.

Design, style and function has always been important to me and I would hope that this is apparent in every Broad Marsh Tweed product.
